Fifteen meters tall, and built in 1972 to allow visitors to pay respects to Buddha, this is located is on the north coast close to the airport. Hin Ta - Hin Yai are two interesting natural rock formations located at Lamai and are also known as grandfather and grandmother rocks. Their strange shape may be explained by a local tale of an old couple ship-wrecked close by whose bodies became washed and created these strange formations. Namuang Water Falls, Na Muang one and Na Muang two, and are the most scenic falls on Samui , and are found ten kilometers south of Nathon at Ban Thurian. Na Muang one, 8 meters high, may be reached by vehicle. Na Muang two, 80 meters high, requires a 30 minute walk. Two kilometers south of Nathon town, Hin Lad Water Fall is reached by a 3-4 km trek along a path. The waterfall cascades down a number of levels into a large pool surrounded by lush tropical rain-forest. Located in the hills of Samui, The Magic Buddha Garden comprises several temples, statues, and waterfalls and was built by one man in the last 20 years. The Butterfly Garden is found at he bottom of the hill south of the Koh Samui, by Hua Thanon. Numerous species of butterfly can be seen set in 2,800 sqm of grounds. Also contained in the gardens are a bee house and an insect museum with rare species from Thailand. Made of teak without any nails, and is located at Ban Thale, the Ancient House is the oldest house on Samui; built 150 years ago, with beautiful wood carvings. Located near the airport, Samui Crocodile Farm can easily be found. Over the area of 7000 sqm you may see more than 100 animals of various kinds, including Saltwater Crocodiles, Siam Crocodiles, Caimans, various snakes, monkeys and lizards. Located at Taling Ngnam, the Snake Farm features snakes indigenous to Samui plus scorpions and centipedes. The new 18 hole championship golf course, recently opened at the Santiburi Country Club, is also a major attraction for Samui. This is a stunning course, set into the hillside, and very challenging - meeting international standards. There are many scuba diving schools around Samui, which has become a dive training center for SE Asia. Along with Kao Tao, the island offers a range of diving opportunities for different levels.
